Starting Your Dreams Later In Life and Embracing the Detour

Jenee Darden speaking at Creative Mornings I know it's been a while since I've posted anything but that's because of my job. I'm working as a reporter covering Oakland and I host an arts segment on the radio where I get to interview amazing artists from around the Bay Area. Plus I'm publicizing my book  and building my speaking career!  You know what's funny? I thought this would all happen by the time I was 27-30.  Nope. That wasn't God's plan for me. I'm finally beginning to do the things I've wanted to do and I'm almost 40 years old. Some people reading this who are 40 will say 40 is still young. But some younger people reading may think 40 is nearly ancient. But I'm writing this post for those who like me, thought their career and personal dreams would come true much early in life. I'm here to tell you not to give up.  You know, death inspires life. A number of my relatives and friends have passed away, ranging in

Scared of Swine Flu?

I just got back from San Diego where a school closed due to a student contracting swine flu. That poor child. This virus has been all over the news. Anyone that's a worry wart must be going crazy right now. Recession, war, health care and now swine flu. Just the name of it sounds disgusting and scary. I love journalism but with all of the stuff going on in the world even I feel like I need break from CNN sometimes.
A few of my friends think the media are going overboard with the coverage. I kind of agree. However, people need to be informed. I'd rather know what's going on now then hear from the CDC or WHO if things out of hand. Too bad we don't see this level of urgency from government officials when addressing the spread of HIV/AIDS. People are so mum about it, you would think HIV/AIDS is not an epidemic. But that's another discussion.

Isn't that a great picture above? I saw it on The Guardian. It's a shot of a couple kissing in Mexico City through their hospital masks. Everyone is wearing masks down there.

I have a huge deadline coming up this Friday so my posts will be short and sweet this week. Wish me luck on this article I have due Friday. It's a big one. So big that I must wait until Saturday to see Wolverine.

In the meantime, wash your hands for 20 seconds frequently, stay informed and pray. Hopefully the doctors can get this virus under control.
