Starting Your Dreams Later In Life and Embracing the Detour

Jenee Darden speaking at Creative Mornings I know it's been a while since I've posted anything but that's because of my job. I'm working as a reporter covering Oakland and I host an arts segment on the radio where I get to interview amazing artists from around the Bay Area. Plus I'm publicizing my book  and building my speaking career!  You know what's funny? I thought this would all happen by the time I was 27-30.  Nope. That wasn't God's plan for me. I'm finally beginning to do the things I've wanted to do and I'm almost 40 years old. Some people reading this who are 40 will say 40 is still young. But some younger people reading may think 40 is nearly ancient. But I'm writing this post for those who like me, thought their career and personal dreams would come true much early in life. I'm here to tell you not to give up.  You know, death inspires life. A number of my relatives and friends have passed away, ranging in

Getting Sweet on Bedroom Kandi at Good Vibrations

Kandi Burruss and Cocoa Fly
Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kandi Burruss can draw a crowd. And the store Good Vibrations knows how to throw a party.   Kandi was in Oakland a few weekends ago to promote her "pleasure line"  Bedroom Kandi at Good Vibrations’ Oakland store grand opening.  Good Vibrations turned 35 this year.   The line to get into the sexy boutique stretched down the street and wrapped around the corner. I overheard one woman say she waited outside for an hour to buy some Bedroom Kandi and meet the songwriter/reality star.

Pieces of Bedroom Kandi
Check the out the picture of Kandi and I.  Pardon my dorky smile; I was murmuring to her about CocoaFly.com while her very nice and patient assistant snapped the shot. Forget about me, isn’t Kandi gorgeous?! She was so sweet to the fans. I left with a goody bag filled with a toy, lube, oil and some other things.  Her products are definitely more for the discreet and freaky. The chic packaging resembles more of an upscale cosmetics line.  Kandi’s “Make Me Over” toy is disguised as a powder compact. You open it and see a mirror. But the powder puff is actually a vibrator.  Don’t be fooled by her best-selling Kandi Kisses lipstick tube. “It looks like a lipstick, but it’s a bedroom candy for your other lips,” she told the Good Vibrations crowd.

I disconnected my cable service a long time ago so I haven’t seen RHOA since Kandi’s first season on the show.  I liked her because she’s positive and comes off as a serious business woman.  I respect her for thinking outside of the box and finding a different way to market herself and make money. And she wrote for one my favorite groups ever:  TLC.   Kandi would be a great interview for Cocoa Fly’s upcoming woman and sexual empowerment series (hint, hint if you’re reading Kandi).

I’m sure the Bedroom Kandi line will satisfy many sweet cravings.  Check out the Bedroom Kandi website and tell me what you think.  By the way, the publicist for Good Vibrations told me that Oakland store opening was their largest to date.  Happy Birthday GV!
