Starting Your Dreams Later In Life and Embracing the Detour

Jenee Darden speaking at Creative Mornings I know it's been a while since I've posted anything but that's because of my job. I'm working as a reporter covering Oakland and I host an arts segment on the radio where I get to interview amazing artists from around the Bay Area. Plus I'm publicizing my book  and building my speaking career!  You know what's funny? I thought this would all happen by the time I was 27-30.  Nope. That wasn't God's plan for me. I'm finally beginning to do the things I've wanted to do and I'm almost 40 years old. Some people reading this who are 40 will say 40 is still young. But some younger people reading may think 40 is nearly ancient. But I'm writing this post for those who like me, thought their career and personal dreams would come true much early in life. I'm here to tell you not to give up.  You know, death inspires life. A number of my relatives and friends have passed away, ranging in

Ugly Betty's Future Not Looking Pretty?

I knew something was up when ABC moved Ugly Betty to Friday nights. That's usually not a good sign. Yahoo! TV is speculating the ax may fall on the hit comedy because of lower ratings last season. ABC execs say they still have Betty's back, Yahoo! reports. Rumors about Betty's fate have been floating around for a while. Hopefully, it won't become fact. I admit I didn't watch season 3 much either. However, I watched the reruns over the summer and am back for season 4. The show is funny, and in my opinion, one of the most diverse programs on television. The crazy characters at Mode magazine reflect America: gay, straight, white, black, brown, yellow, sane and loony. Props to Salma Hayek for not being afraid to push the color and gender lines. I love the importance of family on the show and the writing is spunky.

Other shows on the CANCEL list include: CW's The Good Life, ABC's Hank starring Kelsey Grammar and NBC's Parks and Recreation. Go here to see more shows on life support. I want America Ferrera, Vanessa Williams and the cast to keep getting a check so make sure to watch Ugly Betty, Friday nights at 9/8pm central on ABC. If you don't have Tivo catch the new season of Ugly Betty Thursday Nights at7 pm on the TV Guide Channel. I hear TV Guide will air the show in FULL screen. Or when you're bored at work and the boss isn't looking watch it on ABC.com. Not that I ever watched TV online in my office when I had a job. Oh no, not me. Well, I better go now.

  1. They better not cancel my Betty! I had Tivo last year Betty competed with another show I liked...(Ok I can admit a guilty pleaseure...Smallville)so I didn't watch it when it aired, but I also caught up and think it is hillarious. I loved Vanessa Williams asking if anyone wanted "carnitas" on the first episode! I also think justin is right about to come out...maybe he should move cities and stations to Fox' Glee (another guilty pleasure)...he could be real happy there! They can't cancel before he finally tells all of Americahis big gay secret...not so secret and that's what I love!

  2. Don't send Justin to another show just yet. We have to watch so Betty and her crew can stay on the air. I still think ABC did her wrong by moving her to Friday nights. She should be on Thursday nights. That way it will be Betty, Grays Anatomy and Private Practice.
