Awww Dave, You Too?

What is up with these men who can't keep their pants on? Now Dave can join Bill Clinton, Gavin Newsom, Jude Law, Brad Pitt, Kobe Bryant and countless others in the Naughty Boy Club. Unless you've been living on an island from Survivor, I'm sure you know about David Letterman confessing on his show last night that he's in the middle of a sex scandal and extortion case. I never thought I would be typing "David Letterman" and "sex scandal" in the same sentence. CBS News producer Robert Halderman allegedly tried to blackmail the Late Night host into giving him $2 million or he'd write a book and screenplay about Letterman's affairs with his female co-workers. Now there's a trial and the producer faces up 16 years in prison.

The whole situation is a mess. I'm talking hot-mess-on-a-platter drama. According to Time and the Wall Street Journal Letterman reportedly was messing around with his former assistant Stephanie Birkitt. TMZ reports the affair ended in 2003. But Letterman dated his current wife for more than 20 years before putting a ring on it this March. It gets stickier. Recently, Birkitt became Halderman's live-in girlfriend. He allegedly got hold of her diary and pictures and used it to frame Letterman. Now this fool Halderman will possibly be out of a job and in a prison jumpsuit for a while. Two million dollars isn't worth my freedom.

Here are my thoughts on the situation:

--Women need to stop messing with men who are taken. One reason why men cheat is because they know they'll find a woman who will give it up knowing he's married or in a relationship. Hello Steve McNair.

--I feel bad for Letterman's wife because I imagine she's embarrassed and angry. As she should be.

--The way Letterman delivered the news to his audience was brilliant. He softened the blow by mildly joking about it in his quirky and corny way. Then took the story down a serious route. By then the audience had compassion for Dave. At the end of the explanation, he man-ups and straightforwardly said he had "sex" with his female co-workers.

--David Letterman, who always jokes no woman wants him, had sex?

--Letterman can't call the kettle black anymore and joke about public figures who cheat.

--Although this is delicious gossip, the scandal won't stop me from watching. Dave's drama doesn't take away from his talent. I hope he and his wife can work things out. Now Dave, keep making America laugh and just hire men from now on.
